KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Could the death of an infant on Phelps Street this week have been avoided, or somehow prevented?
It’s still early in the investigation and the autopsy report hasn’t been made public yet, but the State Office of the Ombudsman has said it will be reviewing the case.
They will be doing a routine examination into whether the local office of Child Protective Services might have intervened in some way, making sure that protocols and procedures were followed.
That means there were prior issues in the home of the seven month old baby girl and that CPS had been in contact with the family.
Public Safety responded to the 500-block of Phelps Tuesday afternoon after receiving a 9-1-1 call that the infant had stopped breathing during a bath.
CPR was attempted but was unsuccessful. Few other details have been released.
