KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZ0-AM) — A man captured on surveillance video stealing a Salvation Army Red Kettle from an east side diner has been identified and could face charges.
Kalamazoo Township Police Lt. Brian Ergang says they have identified the suspect as a 27-year-old man from Kalamazoo.
They say he walked into Michelle’s Restaurant on Gull Road two days after Christmas and stole the Red Kettle from the counter, walking out of the place when no one was watching.
A surveillance camera reviewed days later caught him in the act with the kettle in his hands.
Lt. Ergang says community members quickly identified the sneak thief once they released the photo to the media.
They intend to seek warrants from the Prosecutor charging the man with larceny.
