KALAMAZOO (WKZO—AM) — A Kalamazoo woman who abandoned her infant daughter for 13-hours while she partied has been sentenced to prison for involuntary manslaughter.
23-year-old Tekia Wright initially claimed that post-partum depression led her to leave 11-month old Gabrielle Wright home alone.
Her attorney also brought it up at sentencing in requesting a reduced sentence.
Police claim that she was otherwise engaged at drug and sex fueled parties in June of 2014 when the baby died.
Wright has been sentenced to serve 28-months to 15 years after she pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
In exchange for her plea, the prosecutor’s office dropped a second degree child abuse charge.
