DEARBORN (WKZO-AM) –Ford is scrapping plans to build a $1.6-billion factory in Mexico and will instead pour 700-million-dollars into its Flat Rock, Michigan plant.
CEO Mark Fields says the move will create 700 new jobs in Flat Rock, where high-tech electric cars and self-driving vehicles will be built, as well as the Ford Mustang and Lincoln Continental.
Fields says Ford will still make small cars in Mexico but at an existing plant
Fields says the company’s goal is to make use of the facilities it already owns.
Long term they plan to convert 13 of their models to EV’s including electric versions of the Mustang and the F-150.
