KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The first babies born at the two birthing centers in Kalamazoo in 2017 arrived in the first hour, and may have been the first born in west Michigan.
Abigail Lou Fahey was born just 18 minutes into the New Year. The little girl was born at the Bronson Birthing Center to Kathreen Fahey and her husband, Joe, of Portage. She is their first child.
The first child born at Borgess Medical Center was born to Gwendolyn and Craig Jackson at 12:58 a.m. It was their tenth child and was due around Christmas. They were still working on a name for the baby when the news release was issued.
The new mother says the baby apparently waited until he could gain some additional attention.
The first baby born in Grand Rapids didn’t arrive until hours later.
