CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Charges may be filed after a hit-and-run crash that left an elderly man from Leroy Township dead.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies say he was injured in a weather-related crash last Thursday but died Friday at the hospital. The name of the 95-year-old has not been released. His death could mean more serious charges may be filed against the 33-year-old driver who is believed to be at fault.
Investigators say it appears the woman, also from Leroy Township, lost control of her vehicle on an icy road and struck the vehicle that contained the victim at Sonoma Lake Road and B Drive South on Thursday evening.
The woman allegedly walked away from the accident, and was picked up by a friend. She was later located and questioned.
The woman was reportedly driving on a suspended license.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
Police are waiting for the results of the post-mortem and data from the auto crash data recorders before presenting their case to the prosecutor.
