KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Three not-so-wise men were arrested walking away from a rental car they used to flee from Public Safety Officers in Kalamazoo right around 2:45 a.m. Christmas morning.
A Public Safety officer addressing quality of life issues in the Ada Street area first spotted the rented Impala committing a moving violation and tried to pull the car over. He then gave chase when the driver fled through a residential area on Kalamazoo’s north side at a high rate of speed.
The officer broke off the chase for safety’s sake but soon after found the car abandoned. Inside they found a handgun and the paperwork identifying the man who rented the car.
A check on the serial number of the gun later determined that it had been stolen from its rightful owner.
The three occupants were spotted by a Sergeant who responded to the area and the arrest was made.
The driver was booked at the Kalamazoo County Jail for carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license and possession of a stolen fire arm.
One of his passengers was arrested for violating parole and the third was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
