KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Two big projects in the cities of Kalamazoo and Portage have received gifts this Christmas season that will bring much bigger benefits in the years to come.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has awarded the Stryker corporation a $1 million performance grant, revealing for the first time that the medical equipment manufacturer plans to build a $130 million corporate campus in Portage, creating about 105 new jobs in the county.
A long proposed project for downtown Kalamazoo, “The Exchange,” planned for Michigan and Rose across from the Radisson has received a $6.3 million dollar loan from the Michigan Strategic Fund that should get that project which is now valued at nearly $53 million finally rolling.
The 15-story building will include a bank anchoring the first floor, and include both office and residential space in the upper floors and several floors of parking down below.
