UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — More snow overnight added a new layer to driveways and local streets, but most main roads are ice covered but clear. That could change with more snow coming Saturday night and Sunday with a return to bitterly cold temperatures.
Road crews have had a chance to work on the roads since the last snowfall. More snow is coming according to the forecasts.
If you are planning to fly home for Christmas this weekend, you may want to call ahead first because a number of flights from Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids to the big hubs in Detroit and Chicago have been delayed.
140-million Americans are expected to cope with extreme cold or winter weather advisories this weekend, which will probably curtail holiday shopping but improve the chances of having a white Christmas.
Authorities are cautioning people that even though we’ve have seen some extremely cold temperatures, ice on inland lakes is not yet safe for ice fishing.
Public Safety Captain Brian Williams says ice needs to be at least four to six inches thick, and had some time to form a solid layer. All the snow we have had has insulated the ice and the water and slowed the ice-making process.
