KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A famed Kalamazoo-based donut shop is planning to open a franchise training center in Plainwell.
This despite Sweetwater’s Donut Mill not yet having any franchised locations. Owner-operated locations currently exist in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.
“We’ll be opening a full retail store that’ll be double the size of a normal donut shop to allow for franchisees to be trained effectively,” Chris Olsen, the president of the company, said on Tuesday.
Founder Greg Garner says he’d like to see between 20 and 50 Sweetwater’s franchises.
“Maybe go into Wisconsin, and Illinois, and Indiana and Ohio,” Garner said. “Chris, certainly, has a broader focus than that, and I think he’s also focused on the potential of working with corporate franchisees that have us as part of a portfolio that would have pizza places, and burger places and a donut place.”
They’re expecting the new Plainwell store and training center to open next summer.
