UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — A Winter Weather Warning is in effect along the lakeshore and in Kalamazoo, Cass and St. Joseph Counties until 4 pm on Friday. There is a Winter Weather Advisory in Calhoun, Branch and Barry Counties.
Meteorologist Evan Webb at the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says the cold front has already plunged the Great Plains into the deep freeze. He says the morning commute may be treacherous, depending on how snow bands set up overnight.
He says the Lake Effect snow is the result of the Polar Vortex will crashing into all the heat and humidity rising off Lake Michigan and the result will be heavy snow, blowing, drifting and slippery road conditions, especially in Van Buren, Allegan and Kalamazoo Counties.
He says more snow is predicted for this weekend and even colder temperatures are predicted to move in next week.
