CASS COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A Chicago man is dead after his KIA minivan was struck by a freight train in Cass County on Monday.
Sheriff’s deputies believe 43-year-old John Morris ignored a stop sign at the railroad crossing, and his van was crushed by a Canadian National freight train and was dragged about a half-mile down the tracks.
It happened on Harris Road near Hess Road in Jefferson Township at around 2:45 p.m.
The crossing is on a rural dirt road, and there are no railroad signals.
Morris was dead at the scene.
