KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The WMU Broncos have moved up one slot on the latest AP Football rankings to 13th and jumped four spaces to #14 on the Coaches’ poll after a brutal weekend for ranked teams.
Michigan fell from third to fifth in the AP Poll after losing in overtime to the Buckeyes. Right now the only poll that counts is the College Playoff poll which comes out tomorrow evening.
While the team may be stuck in the teens, Fleck himself is about as hot a prospect as there is in College Football, having turned a team that could barely find the locker room three years ago into an “elite” undefeated jugernaught.
There is a lot of speculation over Fleck’s future plans, something we like to call “Fleckulation”. Its something that will only escalate as the college season winds down and more coaching positions open up.
Rumors that Purdue had already struck a deal with Fleck were shot down this weekend.
The latest rumor is that the Oregon Ducks maybe taking a quack at Fleck. But they still have a coach in place and he hasn’t been fired yet.
WMU Athletic Director Cathy Beuregard says they don’t plan to give Fleck permission to talk to other schools until after Friday’s MAC Championship, and that’s also been his story.
He says his sole focus this week is beating the Bobcats of Ohio University, in Friday/’s Mid-American Conference Championship at Ford Field in Detroit..
We also heard that Beauregard was beating the bushes trying to raise enough money to counter any offer he gets from another school. Fleck is already the highest paid coach in the MAC.
The outcome of that drive is also just Fleckulation at this point.
Meanwhile at Notre Dame, Head Coach Brian Kelly is deflecting stories that he is shopping around for a new job after the Irish finished 4-7 this year. The former whiz kid who turned Grand Valley State into a world beater may be looking for a back-up plan.
Is Fleck an Irish name?
