KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Motorists hitting the road for the Thanksgiving holiday can expect to see an increased number of Michigan State Police watching for reckless, dangerous and drunk drivers this weekend.
Trooper Benjamin Mahaffie with the Paw Paw post said the agency will keep the extra patrols out through Sunday night.
“We’ll be on the state trunklines as well as the state highways,” Mahaffie said.
It’s traditionally the second-deadliest holiday of the year for drivers.
“Weather can be a factor, the number of people on the road can be a factor, people in a hurry can be a factor,” Mahaffie said. “We just want to remind everyone through our presence and through our enforcement that, if everybody drives safe and is courteous on the road, everybody can get to where they’re going.”
AAA is expecting over 1.5 million Michiganders to drive at least 50 miles this weekend.
