NEW BUFFALO (WKZO-AM) — Just days before one of the busiest travel periods of the year, a couple of young men from Illinois are dead after a traffic crash on Interstate 94.
It was a chain reaction crash that began when a woman from Grand Rapids collided with a tractor trailer heading west bound on I-94 just two and a half miles from the Indiana border near New Buffalo.
She managed to pull to a stop in the median. The trucker, a Canadian, pulled off on the shoulder.
Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies believe the third vehicle carrying the two Illinois men simply lost control and slid into the back of the trailer.
Both of the 20-year-olds in the car died at the scene. The female involved in the initial crash suffered only minor injuries.
No names were released.
