KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) –Kalamazoo County Health Officials say that after some checking, they have now determined that none of the restaurants in Kalamazoo County served frozen strawberries that were contaminated by Hepatitis A.
The latest list names three eateries in Allegan and one each in Barry County and St. Joseph Counties that they are still concerned about.
They say anyone who had strawberry drinks or dishes at Salvino’s in Plainwell or Salvino’s in Wayland, the Four Roses Café in Plainwell, Magnum Health in Hastings or Dad’s Place in Three Rivers in the last two weeks, may want to seek medical help.
They had initially identified one restaurant in Kalamazoo County, but further investigation showed they did not have the recalled strawberries in their inventory.
The CDC says nationwide, they have confirmed 134 cases of Hepatitis-A but none of them from Michigan so far.
Health officials say there is a 15 to 50 day incubation period for the disease and symptoms can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. they include: fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, jaundice, abnormal liver tests, dark urine, and pale stool. They say anyone with those symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.
There is a vaccination available and health officials are trying to get anyone who may have eaten the tainted berries inoculated before the symptoms appear.
The State Health Department has issued a list of the Restaurants that had the strawberries in their inventory.
