KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A tip helped the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team interrupt an illegal gun transaction that was about to take place between two ex-cons in the 3700 block of Sprinkle Road. The KVET team set up surveillance and was watching when the buyer and the seller showed up Thursday.
The buyer arrived and got in the car with the seller. The vehicle was immediately surrounded by police cruisers.
A 35-year old from Portage was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun, marijuana and two other gun felonies.
The 34-year old allegedly seeking to buy the gun is being held for violating parole. Both have been booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail pending formal charges.
Capt. Dave Boysen says taking guns off the street is something they plan to aggressively investigate to reduce gun violence in the community.
Anyone with information regarding illegal drugs or firearms activity is urged to contact KVET at 269-337- 8880, or report an anonymous tip to Silent Observer at 269-343-
