KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A small memorial has appeared near the spot where a 10-year-old boy was struck and killed by a driver on West Main Street early Wednesday.
Kalamazoo Township police have now identified the victim. Daniel Sluiter was walking home with an older brother and two other boys from a boys club at a local church. He was attempting to cross the busy five lane street in the rain when he was struck and killed by a driver.
Classmates held a vigil for the youngster at his school.
The initial investigation has tentatively determined that the 52-year-old driver was not at fault.
The fourth-grader was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital, but doctors could not save him.
