KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says a new phone scam is targeting Kalamazoo County residents.
Victims are being contacted by a crook claiming to be a deputy, specifically an “Officer Hall” over a number with a 269 area code.
“A local citizen had receieved a phone call telling them that the sheriff’s office needed them to stop by with $1,000 because they forgot to go to court,” Sheriff Rick Fuller said. “The scary part about this is that they were offering to use the sheriff’s office parking lot as a place to pay their $1,000.”
Fuller said that’s not how his agency conducts business.
“If there’s an issue with a court case, you’re going to receive letters,” Fuller said.
Victims are being asked to contact the office at (269) 383-8821.
