KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — They were trick or treating in the hospitals, at the churches and police Stations and in the streets on Monday to make sure that no child went sugar free this Halloween in Kalamazoo.
Several churches repeated their trunk-or-Treat events yesterday. That’s when members of the congregation park the cars in the church parking lot and the kids go trunk to trunk instead of house to house.
Kalamazoo Public Safety staged a similar event at their Crosstown Parkway facility on Monday.
But the parents we talked to in the Westwood Neighborhood said they prefer trick or treating as it was meant to be, out in the fresh crisp fall air, under a canopy of changing leaves going from home to home where you never know what treat awaits you behind that front door.
On Monday, staff from nine departments at Bronson Methodist Hospital dressed up in costumes and provided an opportunity for their young patients to trick or treat.
Instead of the child flowing to the treat, the treat travels to them. They call it their Halloween Parade.
Parent Tim Dibble said the event was a bonus for the patients, including his son Timmy, who dressed as a zombie. He says “Halloween is his favorite holiday,The trick or treating is great because it breaks up the monotony of being in the hospital and having tests and everything else.”
There were no reports of any problems.
