BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has ordered a Battle Creek man to cease and desist the promotion of Amateur Mixed Martial Arts fights in west Michigan.
They say Kit Lykins is not licensed to promote such events under the Michigan Unarmed Combat Regulatory Act.
Licensing Bureau Director Julia Dale says that such events “must operate lawfully by being state-approved to protect the health, safety, and welfare of contestants.” She went on to say that “We want to ensure that professional and safe environments are provided for the athletes.”
They claim his promotion of a fight at The Pizza Parlor” in Battle Creek violated at least 14 provisions of the state act regulating unarmed combat, and that he could possibly be charged with a misdemeanor.
They claim he participated in a ‘sham’ event that threatened the health of those involved and involved fraud and deceit.
As part of their normal process, Lykins is entitled to a hearing while they consider whether to dispense their own discipline or just report him to local police.
Lykins has told the Battle Creek Enquirer that he intends on defending himself.
The event was reportedly a bust, attracting only a few dozen people, and the Pizza Parlor is out of business.
