KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety is investigating a shooting in the parking lot of a liquor store at Crosstown and Portage Road.
Executive Lt. Brad Misner says they dispatched officers Wednesday at 3:42 p.m. A 27-year-old man who admitted to detectives that he was there to sell marijuana was apparently shot during the transaction.
Officers found him lying down and bleeding on the pavement behind the store. A motive for the violent assault was not released but there were reports of a brief argument ust prior to the shooting.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening wounds and was rushed to Bronson Hospital where he was treated and released. An 18-year-old who matched the description of the gunman was detained by officers from the COPS division, who happened to be nearby. A K-9 was able to sniff around and find a gun hidden near another business in the area.
The teen gunman from Kalamazoo has been booked into the County Jail on drug and gun charges.
Detectives have linked a second suspect to the shooting and are currently trying to track him down for questioning and possible charges.
They are looking for 26-year-old Jamar Jackson, who was also apparently involved. He is 5’9”-165lbs, and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Detectives say there were two weapons involved in the incident and only one of them has been recovered.
They are asking for any help they can get from the public in locating Mr. Jackson.
