CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — Two travelers from Chicago who apparently thought they could get away with going 95 mph on Interstate 94 in Calhoun County spent the night in the Calhoun County Jail and could be formally charged on Wednesday.
Deputies spotted the speeding Toyota Highlander headed east at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday near 28 Mile Road and gave pursuit. The sheriff’s deputy could smell marijuana as he approached the driver’s side window and. as soon as he asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, the suspect hit the gas and the chase was on.
The pursuit continued into Jackson County, where the suspect left the highway and quickly got back on it headed in the opposite direction.
They finally used stop sticks to blow out a tire and bring the chase to an end back in Calhoun County.
The 20-year-old driver is being held for fleeing and eluding, driving without a license and marijuana charges. His 32-year-old female passenger is a parole violator wanted on Illinois warrants.
