KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is urging motorists to keep an eye out for little ghosts and goblins on Monday, as trick-or-treaters swarm the streets for Halloween.
Pedestrians tend to suffer the most injuries on the holiday, Fuller told WKZO-AM on Wednesday.
“Watch out for children, I’m asking parents to make you sure your children are seen, and, in that matter also, if they have masks, make sure they can see through their eye-holes,” Fuller said. “And, if you’re out walking with your children, which I strongly encourage, have a flashlight.”
Fuller said his deputies will do their part to keep the streets safe, though it’s still a bit early to determine how many will be on patrol Monday.
“I know that law enforcement, in general, knows that’s a busy night,” Fuller said. “For the decades I’ve been in law enforcement, they have increased on those nights.”
Fuller is also asking homeowners to clear yard obstructions to accommodate children who may not be paying attention to their surroundings.
