UNION (WKZO-AM) — Cass County Sheriff’s deputies say a grandmother and her granddaughter suffered non-serious injuries after running into the rear bumper of another vehicle, then rolling off the side of the road and colliding with a picnic table and a tree.
It happened at around 4 p.m. Sunday near U.S. 12 and Union Avenue after Cirila Diaz was distracted by the child.
The granddaughter was taken to a hospital in Elkhart, Ind. Diaz was treated at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt. Seat belts were worn by both drivers, and the child was in a booster seat.
Investigators say alcohol wasn’t a factor.
