KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A hit and run drunk driver who struck and killed WMU Student Nicolas Heil as he jogged along KL Avenue last May has entered a guilty plea to the charges.
22-year-old Morgan Rowley, who has one previous drunk driving arrest, will be sentenced on December 5th.
The Prosecutor’s office says no plea deal was involved which means that Rowley could get up to 15-years in prison.
The formal charges are driving while under the influence of liquor causing death and failure to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in death. She reportedly had a blood alcohol count that was three times the legal limit.
She will also reportedly participate in “healing meetings” with members of the Heil family to help them resolve some of their anger and for Rowley to understand the consequences of her behavior.
The victim, Nicolas Heil was a 21-year-old engineering student from Fruitport.
