KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Police are looking for a man and woman who sent a couple to the hospital after an altercation near downtown Kalamazoo.
The male victim was stabbed in the back and both victims were pepper sprayed. Kalamazoo Public Safety says the 48-year-old victim and the woman he was with were walking near East Walnut and South Pitcher streets after the victims struck up a conversation with the suspects and asked them for a cigarette.
The male suspect later assaulted the female victim, then pulled a knife and stabbed the male victim as he was tending to his companion. Both victims were also pepper sprayed by the female suspect.
The suspects and victims did not know each other, according to a press release.
The female victim has since been released from Bronson Methodist Hospital. The male remains hospitalized and is recovering after emergency surgery.
Both assailants ran from the scene and remain at large. Investigators say they’re in their mid or late 20s. The woman was last seen wearing jeans and a light-colored jacket. The victims could not describe what the male suspect looked like.
