BENTON HARBOR (WKZO-AM) — A man is dead after a shootout with police in Benton Harbor.
WSJM-AM reports the the officer-involved shooting occurred after police were called to a home in the 900 block of Pavone Street after 2 a.m. on Tuesday. It was reported to dispatchers that a gunpoint robbery was in progress.
As police exited the residence, a person emerged from the street and fired several rounds. One officer returned fire and struck the gunman while running for cover.
The man was pronounced dead at Lakeland Medical Center. An autopsy is underway.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave as Michigan State Police conduct an investigation.
