KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A hit-and-run victim who refused to stop trailing the driver who struck him, even after he was threatened with a gun, now has the satisfaction of knowing the wayward driver is in jail.
The initial collision occurred at West North and North Rose streets during the lunch hour Thursday. The victim called 911 and kept dispatchers informed of their position, even after the suspect stopped his car and threatened the victim what appeared to be a gun.
The chase picked up speed when Kalamazoo Public Safety officers took over the pursuit. The suspect stopped at Catherine and West Main and got out but refused to follow orders, at one point reaching for his pocket. They feared he was going for a gun.
That’s when a police dog was deployed, clamping onto the suspect until officers could subdue and handcuff him.
It turned out the suspect had an airsoft pistol in his pocket and may be lucky he only needed treatment for dog bites.
In addition to facing charges for heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine, the 28 year-old Galesburg man is also being held for resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding and felonious assault.
