KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan football will defend its unblemished record on the road Saturday against East Division-leading Akron in what could be a preview of this year’s Mid-American Conference championship game.
Broncos Head Coach P.J. Fleck says he’s hoping his 6-0 team doesn’t get distracted by its own success.
“They are only 11 teams that are undefeated now. I mean, they’re the biggest programs in the world — it’s the Ohio States, it’s the Alabamas, it’s the Clemsons, then there’s little old Western Michigan over here,” Fleck said. “But what we need to focus on is this Akron team. They’re really, really, really talented.”
Akron defeated Miami University last weekend 35-13.
The 24th-ranked Broncos and the Zips kick off at 3:30 p.m. on 96.5 WZOX-FM.
