PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — The League of Women Voters held a meet-and-greet forum for Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners candidates Wednesday night in Portage.
There were nearly as many candidates on hand as there were voters in attendance.
Candidates Mike Quinn and Tracy Hall said finding a new administrator would be among their first priorities.
“Selecting a good administrator is probably the most important job the county commission will face in the coming year,” Quinn said.
“With over an $87 million budget and over 900 employees, this is why this is my number one priority,” Hall said.
But incumbent Kevin Wordelman still isn’t sure they are ready.
“It’s clear the county board is not unanimous on what they need in a county administrator, we haven’t done a great deal of strategic planning … we need to do some real work to find out who is out there and what kind of skills and experience are we looking for,” Wordelman said.
The current board tried and failed twice to fill the chief administrator’s post and keep it filled.
