LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder has signed the so-called “Good Samaritan Law,” which was inspired after the death of a Watervliet teenager.
Mason Mizwicki overdosed on drugs and died because his friends were afraid they would be prosecuted if they called for help.
The first version of this bill gave limited immunity to those under 21 who summon EMTs.
Al Pscholka, R-Stevensville, said the bill signed Tuesday expands that immunity to everyone else.
“Mason’s legacy won’t be in his death, but in the lives that are saved by this bill,” Pscholka said.
Mizwicki’s mother and aunt, who fought for the bill, attended the ceremonial signing in Lansing.
