KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Public school students, parents, administration members and faculty in Kalamazoo will be participating in a “walk-in” protest Thursday, urging that legislators change some of their viewpoints on education.
Amanda Miller with the Kalamazoo Education Association said the message will be clear.
“Our students deserve adequate funding, less testing and more time to learn,” Miller said.
And educators will use the forum to direct specific frustrations toward Lansing.
“To not have the standardized tests be the end-all, be-all to how the schools are doing,” Miller said.
The protest will start 30 minutes before morning bell time.
“You might see parents, teachers and students outside holding signs,” Miller said. “Then, when school starts, everybody will walk in together.”
Nationwide, 200 towns and cities, including several in Michigan, will hold similar events that morning.
