KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM)– It has taken longer than initially announced to work out the details with the donors who were planning to contribute $70 million to the city for start-up funding for the Foundation for Excellence.
City manager Jim Ritsema had hoped to have a memorandum of understanding two weeks ago, or at least by Monday night’s meeting.
Now he says they hope to have it completed by later this month.
The city commission is talking about dedicating a work session to going over the document on Oct. 24.
The proposal for a Kalamazoo Promise-like fund to make taxes competitive with surrounding communities has generated some controversy on the commission, but polling shows it’s popular with residents.
