HARTFORD TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies are putting out a warning following a strange encounter between a Hartford Township man and a group who purported to be a roof repair crew.
The driver of their truck told the homeowner on County Road 687 that they had repaired the roof years ago, and that it needed a minor repair that they could complete for $120.
They then distracted the homeowner by asking for a pail of water, and while he was getting it, members of the group went through the house.
Before the homeowner realized what had happened, one of the scam artists faked a seizure and they all piled into the truck and left with the victim’s $120.
It was then that the homeowner discovered they had been through his house.
He says it doesn’t appear that anything is missing.
They were driving an older bronze Chevrolet pickup with the name of an unfamiliar roofing company on the door. If they drive into your driveway, go inside and call the police.
