KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A prayer vigil and balloon launch was held late Sunday near Bronson Hospital for a six-year-old who has been in a coma since he was struck by a car on Sept. 10.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies say Xavier Gonzalez was riding a motorized bike at an apartment complex in the 6500 block of East JK Avenue when the bike strayed out onto the roadway into the path of a car driven by a 16-year-old from Kalamazoo.
The young boy suffered broken bones, a punctured lung and traumatic brain injuries.
There are plans to transfer the boy to Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids for long-term care and rehabilitation this week.
