KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The city of Kalamazoo is moving into phase two of their “Imagine Kalamazoo 2025” master planning process and will kick it off Tuesday night with the first of two public workshops.
City Planning Director Laura Lam said the first phase was gathering input, ideas and proposals from the public.
“The plan-it’ phase is a test of their ability to take these values and higher ideas, and turn them into projects and goals that we can work on,” Lam said.
She said they are trying to make it as easy as possible for people to attend. They plan to offer a childcare area, food and even translators during the meeting so everyone can be involved.
The strategic visioning effort has taken on added significance since the announcement of the $70 million Foundation for Excellence grant.
Commissioners will be relying on the public input from the process to decide how millions of that money will be spent.
The ‘visioning’ session will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Northside Association for Community Development at Park and Ransom streets. The event will run for about two hours.
The second session is scheduled for late October.
