KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Darius Phillips had a 100-yard kickoff return plus a 70-yard interception, both touchdowns, as Westerm Michigan held off a tough Georgia Southern team 49-31 Saturday night before a big crowd at Waldo Stadium. The Broncos remain unbeaten at 4-0 while handing the visiting Eagles their first loss of the year (3-1).
Bronco quarterback Zach Terrell completed 18 of 27 passes for 270 yards. Michael Henry caught 8 of Terrell’s passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, while Corey Davis had 6 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Jamauri Bogan was Western Michigan’s leading rusher with 104 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. It was his fifth straight 100-yard game and 4th straignt with at touchdown.
The Broncos open Mid-American Conference play next Saturday in Mount Pleasant against rival Central Michigan (3-1). The Chippewas lost to the Virginia Cavaliers this weekend 49 to 35.
Kickoff next Saturday is set for 7:00 p.m.
