KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — An event was held at V & A Bootery in Downtown Kalamazoo Thursday to promote a “Buy Local” weekend scheduled by the Michigan Retailers Association on October first and second.
The Association says if residents made sure to shop at Michigan owned retailers, then the state’s economy would grow by $9-billion dollars and 75-thousand new jobs would be created.
Tom Scott with the Retailers Association says “money spent locally stays local.
“It recirculates creating new jobs, paying the salaries of the workers who then pay for local goods and services, and the money just keeps on recirculating”.
He says if you send it off to Amazon.com it’s gone forever. Retailing is a big part of Kalamazoo County’s economy, which serves as a shopping hub for most of the counties in this corner of the state.
