KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Homecoming at Western Michigan University is just a few weeks away, and this year the school hopes to break a Guinness World Record during homecoming weekend.
Married couples are being invited to renew their vows in one huge ceremony to be held on the Grand Lawn on top of Prospect Hill near Heritage Hall on Saturday, Oct. 8.
They want couples that are interested to register by Sept. 30, so they will have a good idea of how many are coming. The current record is held by another MAC school, Miami University in Ohio. The current mark is 1,087 couples.
The homecoming organizers say you don’t have to have originally been married on campus or be WMU alumni. Any old married couples will do.
The mass ceremony will be presided over by Mayor Bobby Hopewell.
