KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The defense attorney in the Theresa Petto murder trial has announced that they expect to put Petto on the stand to testify yet this week.
Jason Ronning told the court that she wants “to tell her story” about how she came to shoot 25-year-old Rachel Drafta to death and that “jurors shouldn’t make up their minds until then.”
That may be difficult because the prosecution has a lot of evidence that she is responsible for the killing of the woman who was dating her ex-boyfriend, and a fairly clear motive — jealousy.
That evidence includes a handwritten 14-point guide to pulling off a kidnapping, the gun, knives, zip ties, plastic bags and mace in a backpack and evidence that Petto had been stalking the younger woman for some months.
Testimony resumed Thursday morning and the trial could wrap up before the weekend.
