LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Brandt Iden is one of five House candidates getting election help from Gov. Rick Snyder in the form of television ads.
Iden told Michael-Patrick Sheils on Wednesday he was not expecting the spot from the Snyder non-profit Making Government Accountable.
“I didn’t see this coming,” Iden said. “The governor wanted to do this and he put the ad spot together, and we’re getting some good reviews on it.”
Iden, R-Oshtemo, said it’s not a sign he’s struggling in his race against Democrat John Fisher, who lost to Iden by five points in 2014.
“The district numbers are always tough, but I don’t think so” Iden said. “I’ve had a long relationship with the governor since prior to his election, and I just think it’s based on our friendship.”
Democratic chair Brandon Dillon claims Snyder’s paying back favors for not having to testify about the Flint Water Crisis.
Similar ads have also been released benefiting Beth Griffin, who is running Aric Nesbitt’s seat in the 66th District. Nesbitt is term-limited.
Specifics on the ad buys were not disclosed.
