THREE RIVERS (WKZO-AM) — Three Rivers police say a quick-thinking store owner was able to help capture a suspected conman by locking him into the store until police arrived.
Investigators say the suspect walked into the Triple Creek Convenience Store late Saturday morning and tried to cash a check for over $400 from a Sturgis company that looked suspicious.
Store staff could not verify its authenticity with that firm.
Arriving officers arrested the man in the store, who was from Ohio, and another man from Indiana who was waiting for him outside in a car.
In that car, officers say they found more fraudulent checks, cash, a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine and two guns, one of which they claim was stolen.
The two suspects were booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on multiple felony counts.
