BARRY COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A Delton man has been arrested for an assault that led to his girlfriend’s death.
Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf says Douglas Wortinger was observed engaging in a physical confrontation last Sunday with the victim, 39-year-old Karinsa Lyyn Wisniewski, at the Fish Lake Boat landing.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address on Lindsey Road in Delton on Monday and found Wisniewski’s body. Detectives say she had suffered multiple physical injuries that were the result of domestic abuse.
The 50-year-old Wortinger was subsequently arrested and charged with open murder.
Just months ago, Wortinger was a state prisoner who spent the last 18 years in a cell for first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor. He has only been free since mid-June.
Deputies are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the confrontation at the boat landing on Sunday to contact the Barry County Sheriff’s Office at (269) 948-4801.
