KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County is turning to the public for help raising the last bit of funding that’ll be needed to construct a mile of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail through downtown Kalamazoo.
Parks Director David Rachowicz said, if the $50,000 goal is met within the next two months through an online crowdfuding drive, the state will chip in $50,000 of its own.
“We’ve already raised about $750,000 in private funds to help build this trail,” Rachowicz said. “This $100,000, $50,000 in the crowdfunding and $50,000 in match funds, will help us complete the project.”
The project will connect a gap in the 22-mile trail. Rachowicz said, if that goal is met, the new trail section could be open by fall.
The campaign was launched on Friday.
