GRAND RAPIDS(WKZO-AM) — As we reported they would last month, disgraced former state Representatives Cindy Gamrat and Todd Courser are suing for damages caused by their dismissal from office. They filed their appeals Friday in the U.S. Western District Court.
This comes after an affair between the two that lead to a clumsy cover-up and charges of misconduct in office.
They claim they were persecuted because of their conservative political views and denied due process.
Gamrat, of Plainwell, is seeking $25,000, the minimum amount required to file in Federal Court. She will let the Jury decide how much she deserves, if it ever actually gets to trial and she wins.
Courser is suing just about everyone involved, including the hotel where the two had their affair, the Detroit News, any number of state lawmakers, his staff and the Attorney General. He wants $10-million and the restoration of his seat in the State House.
A spokesman for Speaker Kevin Cotter calls the suit “silly” and says Courser should get a hobby or a new girlfriend.
