KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A stubborn fire in a home that had been cut up into apartments in the Edison Neighborhood has left the building heavily damaged.
The occupants had all fled the structure in the 900 block of East Stockbridge Avenue by the time fire crews arrived at the scene at about 5:15 Friday afternoon.
It began in a bedroom on the first floor and as fire crews attacked the flames from inside, it spread to the second and then third floor, forcing Public Safety officers to flee the building for safety sake and fight the fire from the exterior.
Fire crews were at the scene for four hours. They are still investigating to determine what triggered the smoky fire.
