UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — Mosquitoes may wreck your outdoor plans this holiday weekend. The mosquito numbers are up but there are things you can do to defend yourself.
Those annoying little pests are more numerous now than they have been all summer with the rain from the past few weeks causing a surge in mosquito infestations.
There is also the threat of Mosquito borne viruses. While Zika is not a problem in Michigan, West Nile Virus has been an annual threat in Michigan in recent years, and EEE is also a rare but real issue.
Mike Hoover with Mosquito Squad suggests some back yard maintenance to help limit the problem. He says you should dump out anything that might hold water, planters, children’s toys, wheelbarrows, and pools at the base of gutter systems.
. Hoover says this weekend’s sunny and dry weather may help to keep the mosquitoes at bay until late evening.
Repellants are a good idea and so is wearing long pants and long sleeves.
