KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — It will be a nervous Labor Day weekend for former Portage Gym Teacher Corey McNeal who was tried this past week on charges he had an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.
A Kalamazoo Circuit Court Jury deliberated most of Friday but could not come up with a verdict.
Most of the evidence was in the form of sexually graphic e-mail traffic between the two. He denies ever having sex with the student.
The defense also challenged the credibility of the victim.
The Prosecutor contends they did have a sexual relationship and that everything attached to it was inappropriate.
The jury is weighing four counts of 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and a misdemeanor for sending it to the teen. Deliberations will resume after the holiday.
