PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A Portage woman has been arrested and charged with assault by strangulation, third degree child abuse and assault and battery after her battered 14-year-old daughter showed up at Portage Public Safety headquarters to say she had escaped from her mom, who had been holding her against her will.
37-year-old Carolyn Kay Sharpe is free on bond following her arraignment this week.
Portage Lt. Brian Vandenbrink says that the child had bruising on her head and body that were consistent with her claims that she had been struck and choked.
The girl was transported to the hospital where she was checked out, treated and released.
